Basketball Game Preview: St. Mary's Rams vs. McNair Eagles

The St. Mary's Rams will head out on the road to square off against the McNair Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary's has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while McNair will come in with four straight victories.

St. Mary's saw some tournament action on Saturday. They were dealt a 78-50 loss at the hands of Carondelet.

Despite the defeat, St. Mary's saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ava Perez went 5 for 11 en route to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Nyah Buntun, who posted nine points and five assists.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McNair). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Stagg 80-40. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while the Delta Kings are ranked 868th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

McNair pushed their record up to 11-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.2 points. As for St. Mary's, they now have a losing record at 10-11.

Everything came up roses for St. Mary's against McNair in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 99-34 victory. In that match, St. Mary's amassed a halftime lead of 49-19, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
