Baseball Recap: North Vermillion Comes Up Short

North Vermillion extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-14. They lost 11-2 to the Riverton Parke Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 last Wednesday.

As for Riverton Parke, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

For Riverton Parke's part, Trent Crowder and Bruce Landes made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Crowder tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Landes tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Crowder has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Crowder went 2-for-4 with two runs, while Landes went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Riverton Parke is undefeated when Crowder posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Todd, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson While, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, North Vermillion will venture away from home to square off against Covington at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Riverton Parke, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-3 defeat against North Putnam on the 14th.
