Football Game Preview: Clear Spring Blazers vs. Smithsburg Leopards + Official Tickets

Clear Spring hasn't had much luck against Smithsburg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Blazers will face off against the Leopards at 6:00 p.m. Clear Spring has given up an average of 37 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 62-27, which was the final score in Clear Spring's tilt against Albert Gallatin on Friday.

Meanwhile, Smithsburg got themselves on the board against Poolesville on Friday, but Poolesville never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Falcons 48-0. The contest marked the Leopards' most dominant victory of the season.

Smithsburg's win came from a few key players Clear Spring will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nick Roncone, who rushed for 134 yards and one score on only six carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Scott, who threw for 125 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.

Smithsburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 286 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Smithsburg, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Dakota Sowers, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Smithsburg now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Clear Spring, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Everything came up roses for Clear Spring against Smithsburg when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blazers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
