Softball Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Takes a Loss

If Cheyenne Mountain was riding high fresh off their 15-3 takedown of Thornton on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Red-Tailed Hawks fell just short of the Pueblo County Hornets by a score of 9-7 on Friday. The Red-Tailed Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Addison Gutschick spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Corinne Harlow made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Madison Anderson, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.

Cheyenne Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Pueblo County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-6.

Cheyenne Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-2 victory against Northridge on the 17th. As for Pueblo County, they will face off against Pueblo Central at 12:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hornets 4, the Wildcats 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
