Basketball Recap: Lompoc Takes a Loss

Lompoc lost against Cabrillo back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lompoc Braves fell to the Cabrillo Conquistadores 38-33. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Conquistadores are ranked 179th).

Despite the loss, Lompoc still got an impressive performance from Tara Terrones, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Jalisa Dixon, who posted six points.

Jasmyn Hughes was the offensive standout of the match as she almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Leila Kiesling was another key player, putting up seven points.

Lompoc has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. As for Cabrillo, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-6.

Lompoc will head out to square off against Santa Ynez at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cabrillo, they will challenge Templeton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cabrillo is facing Templeton at the right time seeing as Templeton is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
