Basketball Recap: Avenal Takes a Loss

Avenal was the 48-43 winner over Minarets when they last played one another back in January of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The Avenal Buccaneers fell 40-28 to the Minarets Mustangs on Tuesday. While the Buccaneers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mustangs 14-9 in the first quarter.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Minarets to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savannah Garabedian, who posted 16 points. The dominant performance gave Garabedian a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaphara Bryon-Hamilton, who had 13 points.

Avenal's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Minarets, with the victory, they broke their ten-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-10.

Avenal wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 34-31 loss against Riverdale on the 8th. Minarets has also already played their next contest, a 44-41 win against Fowler on the 14th.
