Softball Recap: Spalding Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Spalding couldn't beat Whitewater on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the seventh inning. The Jaguars fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 11-10. The Jaguars have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Abigail Smith put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Macie Robertson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Ra'Khiya Duffie, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

Spalding's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Whitewater, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Spalding is set to square off against their familiar foe LaGrange at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Whitewater will challenge rival Sandy Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
