Softball Recap: Pensacola Catholic Wins Going Away Against Pensacola

Pensacola Catholic won the last time they faced Pensacola and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Crusaders blew past the Tigers 20-8. With that victory, the Crusaders brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Regan Thornhill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Morgan Smith was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lela Laurence, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Pensacola Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Pensacola Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Pensacola, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

Pensacola Catholic will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Tigers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
