Baseball Game Preview: Jenkins Warriors vs. McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers

The Jenkins Warriors will challenge the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jenkins has nine straight victories, McIntosh County Academy has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Jenkins proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 16) and two weeks ago they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Bryan County 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since February 26th.

Ronald Dunham made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marquis Bush, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Jenkins: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jackson McKenzie, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, McIntosh County Academy came up short against Jenkins County on Tuesday, falling 12-5.

Jenkins' victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for McIntosh County Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-16.

Jenkins suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to McIntosh County Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
