Basketball Recap: Coalinga Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Coalinga couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They lost to the Santa Ynez Pirates on the road by a 48-33 margin on Tuesday. The match marked the Horned Toads' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Coalinga still got an impressive performance from Brooklyn Davis, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards. Davis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Coalinga smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 27 consecutive contests.

Santa Ynez got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kailani Ladera out in front who went 7-for-12 en route to 14 points along with six boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Ladera a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Helina Pecile, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Coalinga's defeat dropped their record down to 24-6. As for Santa Ynez, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Coalinga does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Santa Ynez, they will challenge Torres at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
