Football Recap: Marshall Takes a Loss

If Marshall was feeling good fresh off their 53-20 takedown of Fulton last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Owls were outmatched by the Hannibal Pirates and fell 51-6. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Pirates are ranked 31st).

Marshall has also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Hannibal, their win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Looking ahead, Marshall will take on Smith-Cotton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Owls will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Hannibal, they will face off against Fort Zumwalt West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars' defense has only allowed 13.1 points per game this season, so the Pirates' offense will have their work cut out for them.
