California high school football: Hunter Babb of Caruthers tops state rushing yardage leaderboard

Blue Raiders' senior dual threat also leads nation with 2,356 yards on ground.

According to statistics submitted to MaxPreps, Hunter Babb of Caruthers leads California high school football in rushing yardage. See the complete list of the top 50 rushers in the state below.

Babb, who's listed as a quarterback, has 2,356 yards rushing for 6-2 Blue Raiders and ranks among the top in terms of yardage nationally. 

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound senior has carried the ball 208 times and averages 11.3 yards per carry with 33 touchdowns. He has rushed for more than 150 yards in each game with a high of 440 yards in a 79-38 win over Firebaugh. He added 262 yards on 14 carries and three scores last week in a 44-7 win over Yosemite (Oakhurst).

Herschel Turner Jr. of Mt. Diablo (Concord) is second in the Golden State with 2,032 yards on the ground. He had 324 yards rushing on 23 carries and four touchdowns last week in a 49-47 loss to Alhambra (Martinez). He is averaging 18.8 yards per carry and has found the end zone 31 times this season.



Noah Taylor of Ann Sobrato (Morgan Hill) and Matthew Castillo of Legacy (South Gate are tied for third with 1,836 yards.
