Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Victorious

The Mt. Vernon Rams earned an 8-3 victory over the Lyon County Lyons on Saturday.

Ryker Perigo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for Mt. Vernon: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 7-8 otherwise. Perigo was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Mt. Vernon hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Mt. Vernon's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Lyon County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Mt. Vernon has already played their next contest (against Graves County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Lyon County, they will challenge Hopkinsville at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
