Baseball Recap: North Smithfield Triumphs

It's playoff time, and North Smithfield had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Mt. Pleasant Kilties by a score of 8-4 on Friday. This was payback for the Northmen, who suffered a 7-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Samuel Garrepy and Dylan Nickerson made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Garrepy pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Nickerson struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Garrepy also tossed a walk, which is notable because North Smithfield is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-9 otherwise. At bat, Garrepy went 2-for-4 with two runs, while Nickerson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That's the most hits Garrepy has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Nick Tremblay was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Paiva, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

North Smithfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

The victory got North Smithfield back to even at 10-10. As for Mt. Pleasant, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.

As of now, neither North Smithfield nor Mt. Pleasant have any future games scheduled.
