Basketball Game Preview: Colusa RedHawks vs. Pierce Bears

The Colusa RedHawks will square off against the Pierce Bears at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Colusa is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Hamilton: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Colusa blew Hamilton out of the water with a 69-22 final score. Winning may never get old, but the RedHawks sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row.

Danica Chavez was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine assists. The matchup was her 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Addison Lay, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Pierce entered their tilt with Paradise on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They claimed a resounding 62-25 win over the Bobcats. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 397th, while the Bobcats are ranked 1124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Colusa pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Pierce, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Colusa was able to grind out a solid win over Pierce in their previous meeting back in January, winning 44-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Colusa since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
