Softball Recap: Harlan Comes Up Short

Harlan extended their losing streak to 14 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-17 in the process. They came up short against the Lewis Central Titans, falling 18-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Titans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 two weeks ago.

As for Lewis Central, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-6. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Lewis Central's part, Emerson Coziahr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. Coziahr has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aubree Davis, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Alyssa Griffin also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Harlan will head out to challenge Shenandoah at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lewis Central, they will challenge Cedar Falls at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
