Basketball Recap: New Brighton Comes Up Short

New Brighton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 27th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Ellwood City Wolverine, falling 75-15. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-5.

Ellwood City got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Delaney Sturgeon out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten steals. The dominant performance also gave Sturgeon a new career-high in assists (seven). Another player making a difference was Caitlin Kreitzer, who went 10 of 19 en route to 23 points and eight steals.

New Brighton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Ellwood City, they moved to 9-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the New Brighton Lions face off against the Beaver Falls Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ellwood City, they will head out to square off against Mohawk Area at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Ellwood City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.3 points per game this season.
