Football Game Preview: Springfield Township Spartans vs. Wissahickon Trojans

Springfield Township has gone 6-1 against Wissahickon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Spartans will square off against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Springfield Township turned things around against William Tennent on Friday. They secured a 20-14 W over the Panthers.

It was another big night for Zymir Small, who rushed for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. He is becoming a predictor of Springfield Township's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

Small was just one part of a punishing run game: Springfield Township was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 254 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Wissahickon humbled Hatboro-Horsham with a 42-7 victory. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Hatters: they've now won five in a row.

The victory got Springfield Township back to even at 4-4. As for Wissahickon, their record is now 8-1.

Springfield Township barely slipped by Wissahickon in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 50-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
