Baseball Game Preview: Jenkins Warriors vs. McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers

The Jenkins Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the McIntosh County Academy Buccaneers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Jenkins is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.

Jenkins proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 16) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over Bryan County. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since February 26th.

Ronald Dunham made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Marquis Bush was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Jenkins: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jackson McKenzie, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, McIntosh County Academy came into Friday's matchup having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Bryan County 7-5. The game was the first time the Buccaneers have beaten the Redskins on their field since April 20, 2023.

Jenkins pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for McIntosh County Academy, their record is now 5-13.

Jenkins might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from McIntosh County Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Jenkins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
