Baseball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 14-8. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Stroudsburg Mountaineers. Hurricanes fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Mountaineers since Wednesday.

As for Stroudsburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games.

For Stroudsburg's part, Damian Budhai made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Budhai also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Stroudsburg is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Budhai was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Fergusson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Stroudsburg: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise.

As of now, neither Liberty nor the Mountaineers have any future games scheduled.
