Football Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

Independence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 68-0 loss at the hands of the Melissa Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 861st, while the Cardinals are ranked 33rd).

Jacob Barnes threw for 27 yards on five of 16 attempts. On the ground, Gabriel Ike rushed for 62 yards.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Melissa, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Coincidentally, Independence and Melissa will both be playing Emerson the next time they take the field. The Cardinals will host the Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Knights will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
