Softball Recap: Chadron Starts off Right with Win over Southern Valley/Alma

Chadron had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 10-7 win over Southern Valley/Alma on Friday. This was payback for the Cardinals, who suffered an 8-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Jae Gooder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Chadron let Alex Rassmusen and Brylee Huffman run wild. Rassmusen went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Huffman went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Huffman has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cali Hendrickson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Coincidentally, Chadron and Southern Valley/Alma will both be playing Scottsbluff the next time they take the field. The Cardinals will head out to face the Bearcats on Saturday, while Southern Valley/Alma will play them later in the day, at 9:00 a.m.
