Recap: Poway Titans vs. Mission Hills Grizzlies
If the Poway Titans were feeling good off their 54-31 takedown of the Westview Wolverines last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The match between Poway and Mission Hills wasn't particularly close, with Poway falling 71-56. It was the first time this season that Poway let down their fans at home.
When it comes to explaining why Poway lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Katelyn Johnson. Despite the final result, she scored 31 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ari Mason, who scored 11 points.
It was another big night for Kyara Walter, who scored 21 points for Mission Hills. Walter continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Maria Gorbushin was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists and three steals.
Poway's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-6. As for Mission Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poway will square off against Rancho Bernardo at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Rancho Bernardo is ranked 109th, while Poway is ranked 107th). Mission Hills will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against San Marcos at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th.
