Softball Recap: Chase County Longhorns vs. Bayard Tigers
Chase County extended their losing streak to 13 on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-13. They came up short against the Bayard Tigers, falling 19-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 last Tuesday.
Yesi Ruiz and Violet Sparrow did some serious damage despite the final result: Ruiz got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Sparrow went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Bayard, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Bayard's side, Kaidence Lee made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave Lee a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 13 games she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braylea Halverson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Krista West was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Bayard beat Chase County by a score of 17-0 later that day.
