Basketball Recap: Mission Hills Takes Down La Jolla Country Day in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Mission Hills rose to the challenge on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the La Jolla Country Day Torreys as they made off with a 63-42 victory. The Grizzlies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Mission Hills' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lyndsey Rogers, who went 5-for-7 on her way to 13 points. That's the most points Rogers has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maleena Nava, who went 5-for-9 en route to 16 points.

Mission Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

La Jolla Country Day lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Safiyah Sugapong, who scored 14 points. Lucia Wright also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Mission Hills is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 47.4 points. La Jolla Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 17-11.

Looking ahead, Mission Hills will face off against Francis Parker at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Francis Parker will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Mission Hills surely won't give up without a fight. La Jolla Country Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
