Basketball Recap: Moorpark Triumphs

If Simi Valley wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Moorpark, they should've done a better job of containing Maya Urteaga. The Moorpark Musketeers breezed by the Simi Valley Pioneers to the tune of 79-45 on Tuesday thanks in part to Urteaga, who went 14 of 21 on her way to 34 points along with eight assists and six steals. The contest was her third in a row with at least ten points.

Sam Olivas was another key player, going 6 for 10 en route to 16 points and three steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in November of 2024.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Frances Ellis, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Sahasra Anne, who posted 11 points.

Moorpark's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Simi Valley, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moorpark will take on Royal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Simi Valley, they will challenge Camarillo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Camarillo will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Simi Valley surely won't give up without a fight.
