Basketball Recap: Nancy Chavez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hilltop

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Otay Ranch, Chula Vista was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 48-39 victory over the Hilltop Lancers. This was a revenge game for the Spartans: when they faced off against the Lancers last Wednesday, they had to take a 43-40 defeat.

Chula Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nancy Chavez, who posted eight points and 21 boards. The dominant performance also gave Chavez a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Nyla Dixie, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Chula Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Chula Vista's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 8-18. As for Hilltop, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.

As of now, neither Chula Vista nor Hilltop have any future games scheduled.
