Basketball Recap: Meridian Comes Up Short

Meridian extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-5. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Sterling Jets an easy 53-29 win. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-4.

Despite the loss, Meridian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jetta Stewart posted 11 points and seven rebounds.

Sterling's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Sterling's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Truscott, who had 20 points. Those 20 points gave Truscott a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kynli Portwood, who put up 18 points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Meridian will head out to square off against Superior at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sterling, they will venture away from home to challenge East Butler at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
