Softball Recap: Riverdale Ridge Falls Short of Fort Collins in the Playoffs

Riverdale Ridge and Fort Collins squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Riverdale Ridge had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Lambkins by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Ravens couldn't push the score so high this time.

Aubri Lerch spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Peyton Saenz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Jerzi McArthur, who went 2-for-4 with one triple.

Riverdale Ridge moved to 19-7 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak. As for Fort Collins, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7-1 record this season.

Riverdale Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Fort Collins, they have already played their next game, a 10-0 defeat against Cherokee Trail on the 24th.
