Recap: Pittsburg Pirates vs. Liberty Lions
The Pittsburg Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Liberty, falling 72-36. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Pittsburg in their matchups with Liberty: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Pittsburg had strong showings from Yariah Asidanya, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Ali Tautolo, who scored 14 points.
Pittsburg struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Liberty racked up 17 assists.
Liberty's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Madison Perea, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 rebounds. Perea has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Shyanne Smith was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with two steals.
Pittsburg's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Liberty, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-9.
Pittsburg's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Antioch at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Antioch is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. Liberty won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Caruthers at 12:30 p.m. on January 20th. Caruthers is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
