Basketball Game Preview: La Salle Lancers vs. Summit SkyHawks

Having just played yesterday, the La Salle Lancers will jump right back in to play the Summit SkyHawks at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Summit is hoping to do what La Serna couldn't on Thursday: put an end to La Salle's winning streak, which now stands at ten games. La Salle simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat La Serna 61-28. Given La Salle's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while La Serna is ranked 150th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

La Salle's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Casey Higgins, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. What's more, Higgins also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in January. Another player making a difference was Aislin Tamez Torres, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Summit entered their tilt with Silverado on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They took their match with ease, bagging a 63-18 victory over the Hawks. That looming 63-18 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the SkyHawks yet this season.

Summit pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.1 points per game. As for La Salle, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1.

Everything came up roses for La Salle against Summit in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, as the squad secured a 60-31 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Salle since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
