Basketball Recap: Izzy Baker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Escondido Adventist Academy over Escondido

Escondido Adventist Academy and Escondido squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Escondido Adventist Academy had to settle for second. They came up short against the Escondido Cougars, falling 64-38. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2018.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Izzy Baker, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. Baker has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Branae Jefferies was another key player, putting up 13 points and six boards.

Escondido's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anaya McGlory, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. McGlory also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Escondido is 5-2 when she posts at least five steals, but 5-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Naomi Gutierrez, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 16 boards.

Escondido Adventist Academy's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Escondido, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-13.

Escondido Adventist Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Escondido, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 36-34 win against Patrick Henry on the 20th.
