Robertson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Francisco Lopez led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Santos Martinez is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least seven every time he's taken the field this season. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Pojoaque Valley came up short against Hozho Academy last Friday and fell 21-14. The Elks/Elkettes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Robertson will have to keep a close watch on D'Marcus Rodriguez and Jaden Leyba-Moya, a pair of players who had a big impact on Pojoaque Valley's prior game. Rodriguez rushed for 122 yards and one TD, while Leyba-Moya rushed for 128 yards on only 11 carries. With that strong performance, Rodriguez is now averaging an impressive 100.3 rushing yards per game.
Robertson's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Pojoaque Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Robertson has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 158.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pojoaque Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 185.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Robertson against Pojoaque Valley when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 51-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
