Basketball Recap: Brawley Skates Past Calipatria with Ease

Brawley won the last time they faced Calipatria and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Brawley Wildcats blew past the Calipatria Hornets 67-17. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Brawley had a senior duo take command as Bre Montano posted 15 points and Dayanna Ortiz earned 14 points. The contest was Montano's third in a row with at least ten points. Isabella Trujillo was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 rebounds.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Brawley, bringing their record for this year to 13-11. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Calipatria, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brawley will square off against Holtville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brawley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Holtville likes a good challenge. As for Calipatria, they will take on Southwest EC at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Calipatria is facing Southwest EC at the right time seeing as Southwest EC is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
