Basketball Recap: Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Central Catholic lost against Mountain House back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Central Catholic Raiders fell 41-34 to the Mountain House Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 599th, while the Mustangs are ranked 164th).

Despite the loss, Central Catholic saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mia Cardoza posted four points in addition to 19 boards and four blocks. Allie Abbate was another key player, putting up ten points.

Jariah Indalecio continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mountain House, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Indalecio a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Erica Foster, who scored eight points along with nine boards and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Central Catholic and nudges their season record down to 9-14. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 19-6 East Union (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 80.3% over those games). As for Mountain House, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 22-4.

Central Catholic has already played their next matchup, a 46-45 win against Manteca on the 11th. As for Mountain House, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-60 defeat against East Union on the 11th.
