Basketball Game Preview: River Valley Falcons vs. Yuba City Honkers

River Valley and Yuba City are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The River Valley Falcons will welcome the Yuba City Honkers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

River Valley fought the good fight in their overtime match against Roseville on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 38-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The Falcons' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Sukhman Kandola, who posted 11 points and six rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Gurleen Nijjar, who earned five points.

Meanwhile, Yuba City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Twelve Bridges and fell 63-28.

River Valley will have to keep a close watch on Juliana Vasquez and Allie Campbell, a pair of players who had a big impact on Yuba City's prior game. Vasquez went 9 of 14 on her way to 16 points, while Campbell had seven points and eight rebounds.

Yuba City's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for River Valley, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-11.

River Valley beat Yuba City 36-23 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Will River Valley repeat their success, or does Yuba City have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
