No. 5 Buford, No. 10 Miami Central both go down on Friday.
The biggest high school football game of the season turned into a one-sided affair as No. 9
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) blanked No. 1
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 28-0. It was the first shutout loss for the Monarchs since 2011 when Orange Lutheran (Orange) beat them 28-0. The Braves dominated in every phase of the game and improved to 7-1. They have opened Trinity League play 3-0 outscoring the opposition, 126-34.
Senior running back
Cameron Jones scored both touchdowns in the first half to give St. John Bosco a 14-0 lead at halftime.
Stacy Dobbins connected with
Tommy Maher on a trick play to push the lead to 21-0 midway through the third quarter and
Chauncey Sylvester scored the final touchdown with a 5-yard run late in the fourth quarter. Mater Dei only got inside the red zone twice.
No. 25
Mill Creek (Hoschton, Ga.) pulled out a 31-24 win over No. 5
Buford (Ga.) to improve to 7-0 in the only other MaxPreps Top 25 matchup.
Shane Throgmartin found
Justin Content for the game-winning score with 1:20 left. The Wolves drove down the field and had one last chance to tie it up but
Dylan Raiola's pass fell incomplete in the back of the endzone. The defending AAAAAAA state champs have now 15 games in a row.
No. 10
Central (Miami) went into halftime with a 20-0 lead over
Norland (Miami) but the Vikings stormed back for a 29-26 overtime victory.
Noah Sidan connected on a 38-yard field goal in overtime to beat the Rockets for the first time in school history. Norland turned two Miami Central turnovers into touchdowns in the third quarter with one being a pick-six from
Anthony Mattison. It was the second consecutive victory for the Vikings after trailing by double digits. They erased a 19-7 fourth quarter deficit against Booker T. Washington (Miami) last week and pulled out a 20-19 win.
