Basketball Recap: Elk Grove Thundering Herd vs. Davis Sr. Blue Devils

The Elk Grove Thundering Herd's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 16th straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 53-20 loss at the hands of Davis Sr.. Elk Grove has not had much luck with the Blue Devils recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Elk Grove's loss came despite strong showings from Alyssa Wong and Nyla Kieu. Wong scored eight points, while Kieu scored eight points.

Davis Sr.'s win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alia Cordone, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Cordone has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Tessa Schouten was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Elk Grove's loss was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-18. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.4 points per game. As for Davis Sr., they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Elk Grove will head out on the road to square off against the Wolfpack at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cosumnes Oaks presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Thundering Herd in California (the Wolfpack are ranked 299th, while the Thundering Herd are ranked 1059th). As for Davis Sr., they will play host again and welcome the Huskies, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sheldon is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
