Soccer Game Preview: Washington vs. Wahlert

The Washington Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Wahlert Golden Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Washington's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Jefferson 4-0. Given Washington's advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa soccer rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Jefferson are ranked 124th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Waterloo West typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Wahlert proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Wahawks.

Washington has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those five matchups. As for Wahlert, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-4.

Washington took their win against Wahlert when the teams last played back in May of 2018 by a conclusive 4-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
