Basketball Recap: Dougherty Valley Victorious

Dougherty Valley hadn't done well against Monte Vista recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Dougherty Valley Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-48 victory over the Monte Vista Mustangs. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 61-49 win the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Monte Vista had strong showings from Naliyah Sefidi, who went 8 for 18 en route to 22 points, and Kennedy Whyte, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. The match was Whyte's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliette Leonard, who posted seven points and five boards.

Dougherty Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Monte Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-13.

Dougherty Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against California at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. California is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season. As for Monte Vista, they will venture away from home to face off against Amador Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Monte Vista is facing Amador Valley at the right time seeing as Amador Valley is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
