Basketball Recap: Wilmington Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

On Saturday, the Wilmington Greyhounds didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the Eisenhower Knights, but they still walked away with a 58-52 victory. Given the Greyhounds' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Knights are ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Eisenhower had strong showings from Clara Steinberg, who shot 53% from the field on her way to 20 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds, and Lainey Font, who posted 15 points and six boards. The match was Steinberg's eighth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Belcher, who had nine points.

Wilmington's win bumped their record up to 21-4. As for Eisenhower, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-8.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Wilmington will face off against Penns Manor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eisenhower, they will take on Bishop McCort at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop McCort will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Eisenhower surely won't give up without a fight.
