Baseball Game Preview: Godwin Eagles vs. Matoaca Warriors

The Godwin Eagles will face off against the Matoaca Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Godwin has four straight victories, Matoaca has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Godwin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Glen Allen, who was ranked 17th at the time (Godwin was ranked 12th). The Eagles blew past the Jaguars 9-1 on Friday. Considering the Eagles have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Eli Macturk was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Macturk was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Babcock, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as he's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, Matoaca didn't have quite enough to beat Hopewell on Tuesday and fell 7-6.

Matoaca's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Godwin, their win bumped their record up to 18-3.
