Football Recap: Sandia Starts Season with Defeat on the Road + How To Watch

Sandia kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 26-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Piedra Vista Panthers. If the Matadors were looking for revenge after losing 28-7 to the Panthers when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Sandia still got an impressive performance from George Smith, who rushed for 100 yards and one score on only nine carries.

Piedra Vista's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nicholas Halvorson, who rushed for 22 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also picked up 62 receiving yards.

Sandia wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 46-24 defeat against Cibola on the 28th. As for Piedra Vista, they have also already played their next matchup, a 27-22 win against Bloomfield on the 29th.
