The Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays will head out on the road to square off against the Nebraska City Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ashland-Greenwood's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Nebraska City's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Ashland-Greenwood took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Bishop Neumann, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bluejays sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Cavaliers on Monday.

Sofia Dill made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Milburn, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024. Megan Gerdes also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Ashland-Greenwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Neumann only managed five.
Meanwhile, Nebraska City unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Malcolm by a score of 10-9.
Rylie Beethe was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Hanna Marth, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Ashland-Greenwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Nebraska City, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Ashland-Greenwood hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Nebraska City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Ashland-Greenwood might still be hurting after the 19-9 loss they got from Nebraska City in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Bluejays avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
