Volleyball Recap: Hope Christian Gets the Win

While Hope Christian's win against Manzano wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Monarchs on Saturday. The Huskies haven't had any issues with the Monarchs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Hope Christian had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-13.

Despite the defeat, Manzano saw an underclassman step up: freshman Delilah Murphy had 25 digs and three aces. Those 25 digs set a new season-high mark for Murphy.

Hope Christian's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Manzano, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Hope Christian and Manzano should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings. The Huskies (ranked 30th) will meet Pojoaque Valley (ranked 117th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Manzano will face off against Highland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (50 vs. 144).
