Basketball Recap: Newbury Park Takes a Loss

Newbury Park lost against Westlake back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Newbury Park Panthers had to suffer through a 67-32 loss at the hands of the Westlake Warriors. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-13.

When it comes to explaining why Newbury Park lost, don't look at Greta Heath. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Heath is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played.

Westlake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mathis Dritz led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 19 boards. What's more, Dritz also racked up seven assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Taylor Swanson, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Newbury Park has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season. As for Westlake, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 22-4.

Newbury Park will venture away from home to challenge Thousand Oaks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thousand Oaks is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season. As for Westlake, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-39 loss against Fairmont Prep on the 1st.
