Softball Recap: Montezuma-Cortez's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Montezuma-Cortez ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Eagle Valley Devils 10-8. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

AnnaLisa Abeyta spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Montezuma-Cortez let Aubrey Taveria and Raegan Veach run wild. Taveria went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Veach went 3-for-5 with three runs and one stolen base. Abigail Baker also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Montezuma-Cortez's win bumped their record up to 7-16. As for Eagle Valley, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-13-1.

As of now, neither Montezuma-Cortez nor the Devils have any future games scheduled.
