Basketball Game Preview: Casteel Colts vs. Miami Vandals

Having just played yesterday, the Casteel Colts will jump right back in to play the Miami Vandals at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Casteel saw some tournament action on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 48-41 victory over Tuba City. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Colts.

Meanwhile, Miami came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Black Hawks, sneaking past 41-38. The 41-point effort marked the Vandals' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Casteel better focus on containing Tamia Pietila and Demetria Dosela as the pair were huge in Miami's win. Pietila posted 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Dosela went 6 of 14 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Pietila's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leeyah Goss, who put up five points and seven rebounds.

Casteel's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Miami, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
