Soccer Game Preview: Alameda vs. Berkeley

The Alameda Hornets will square off against the Berkeley Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Alameda's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 5-0 margin over Mt. Eden. The result was nothing new for Alameda, who have now won four matchups by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Berkeley sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Acalanes on Tuesday. Given Berkeley's advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Acalanes are ranked 287th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Micaela Bedolla Garcia and Terren Davis scored both of Berkeley's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 14 goals.

Berkeley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five matches. As for Alameda, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
