Soccer Game Preview: Gilroy vs. Leland

The Gilroy Mustangs are taking a road trip to face off against the Leland Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilroy's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for eight straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Gilroy is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Branham on Thursday. Gilroy fell just short of Branham by a score of 1-0. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 454th, while the Bruins are ranked 105th).

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Leland brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against Piedmont Hills on Thursday as Leland made off with a 5-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won seven in a row.

Leland hit Piedmont Hills with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Aylin Altinel (2), Annika Park, Mili Fisher, and Taytem Condit.

Gilroy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9-2. As for Leland, their win bumped their record up to 8-2-5.
